Freelance 3D Artist – Vehicle, prop, building and road surfaces for driving sims

Working on projects as part of remote teams modelling, texturing, exporting and testing assets in engines including rFactor Pro, Unreal & Unity.

Using CAD, photo, video, aerial/satellite images and LiDAR point cloud scan references to re-create real world locations with a high level of accuracy.

Software used: Autodesk 3ds Max, Adobe Photoshop, Substance Painter, Substance Designer.


Sept 2011 – Sept 2015

Senior Modeller – Mila (Currently at film festivals)

Modelled and UV unwrapped buildings, props and vehicles for the CG animated short Mila by Cinzia Angelini.

It was a fantastic project to be part of as a senior modeller. Mila is a worldwide online collaboration of 350+ volunteers from 35 countries.

The short film featured at the opening ceremony of the Trento Film Festival 2021 on April 30th

Thanks to Mila’s volunteers, backers, sponsors, PepperMax Films, Pixelcartoon, IbiscusMedia, Cinesite and Aniventure for helping to make this a reality.

Woodsman Archery (Android App)  

In-between freelance work I built this game in Unity. The App is compatible with most Android devices running 4.1 (Jelly Bean) and above.

My Roles: Unity Development with PlayMaker, Project Manager, 3D Art, Design.

Software used: Unity, PlayMaker, Photoshop, Autodesk 3Ds Max, Adobe Audition.

Viking Cruises Passenger Safety Film

[Update: 2015] This app has since been re-built in Unity to support multiple platforms and to improve device support.

Designed and coded this interactive educational app for mobile devices running Google’s Android OS.
  • Coded in Eclipse IDE with Android SDK.
  • Created multiple APKs, XML layouts and drawable resources to optimize support for different device screen sizes and densities.

PlayStation EU Community MVP (Volunteer) and Beta Tester

In this voluntary role as a “Most Valued PlayStationer” in the Official PlayStation Community, I was asked to assist SCEE’s Community Team and other MVPs in developing a thriving, friendly, entertaining and active community focused around PlayStation products.

Worked in a team to create a real-time interactive 3D Tai Chi Trainer app for PC and Xbox 360.

I really like working with Alex. The first thing that struck me from him, was the quality of his work. He delivers quality models, and makes each asset special. It does not matter if it is a simple piece of wood, Alex will make it look special and unique. However, I loved the most his environment work, and his capacity of taking a few sketches to make something different and unique. His models hold interest, and artistry.

Alex can follow directions very well. He can take feedback in a positive manner. I was gladly surprised to notice he took initiative on several occasions where no one seemed to chime in to help. For example, without anybody telling him, he helped other artists with his amazing UV skills, and troubleshooting bugs others were encountering. He has what it takes to lead. Now that I look back into his work, I can notice that some of the best texturing was performed on models he made. This is not a coincidence, but the result of him being a professional modeler; one that can understand both direction, and needs of artists down the pipe line. I would highly recommend Alex to any team that requires a talented modeler, and true team player.

It is my pleasure to recommend Alex Harris as he is not only an amazing talent but a pleasure to work with.

On the animation short, “Mila” (www.milafilm.com), I work with Alex as his Production Manager. Alex is one of our strongest modelers and his technical skill is superior to many on my team. He is extremely efficient, quick in producing his initial work for review and prompt when tweaks and changes need to be made. He has also been very flexible when we need to change things on the fly and has been one of my “go to guys” when I need to reassign an asset for quick fixes and tweaks.

Alex is also a huge asset to our team, and would be to yours, because he is a team player. He has made himself available to assist other artists with troubleshooting needs in either 3DS Max or Maya and has helped keep production moving forward because of his assistance. Also, communicating with Alex has been a producers dream as he is prompt and thorough when updating me on his progress.
